Life Coaching

What is Life Coaching?

It’s a partnership in which the coach helps the client to achieve their personal best and to produce the results they want in life. The ultimate purpose of coaching is to help the client be happier.

  • It focuses on goals and outcomes (what the client wants) and on how to achieve them.
  • It is present- and future-focused (unlike therapy, which is more past-focused).
  • It encourages a client to know their values and live them in achieving goals.
  • It challenges limiting beliefs and reinforces positive ones.

What exactly happens in a life-coaching program?

The first session is a (complimentary) conversation in which we talk about the area you’re struggling with or the goal you want to achieve. From there, we can assess whether coaching can help you, or whether another modality (training, therapy, etc.) might be better suited for your situation.

If coaching is the modality of choice, we meet for sessions of 1.5 hours, every 2 weeks for a duration on which we agree in the beginning. Usually, a coaching program runs for 6, 10 or 12 sessions – depending on the complexity of the situation (more if needed).

Here are the steps:

  1. We formulate an outcome together, i.e. gain clarity on what you want to achieve;
  2. We work backwards from that outcome and figure out the things that need to fall into place (inside and outside of yourself) that would allow you to progress towards your outcome;
  3. We formulate an action plan, with clear milestones and time-frames.

Where do the sessions take place?

  • If the client is in Mauritius, face-to-face sessions are recommended. At my office, in Albion.
  • If client is not in Mauritius, sessions can be done online, on Zoom.

Important points to note before embarking on a coaching program

  • All information shared by client is treated as confidential by coach.
  • At the end of each coaching session, an action plan is agreed upon with the client.
  • In between coaching sessions, the client commits to working on the action plan agreed.
  • The success of the coaching program depends on the commitment of the client to their own growth and development. The client owns and is responsible for the results of the coaching.
  • The coach is a co-explorer and co-solution-developer, not the authority.
  • The coach commits to being fully present and dedicated to each coaching session and to support the client – to the best of her ability – to find the necessary resources inside and outside of them to achieve their goals and be happier.
  • Coaching is a developmental process over time, not a one-time event. Change is embraced as a daily “active learning” process, sustained over a period of time with regular feedback. This feedback is drawn from implementing agreed-upon strategies in actual life situations.
